Abstract

The study applied two sets of Remote Sensing data sets– SPOT HRV Xs (of 1994) and Aerial Photographs (of 1962) to study the coastal dynamics and features of parts of Lagos coasts. The data sets were digitized and a GIS software-Arcview 3.2a was  used for the analysis. The study found that the shoreline was expanding at the expense of the ocean due to deposition by longshore drift. It was also possible to calculate the length of the beach landwards and the length of shallow water from the SPOT HRV XS (Hard Copy). The study concluded that it was necessary to apply the techniques to coastal studies for effective integrated coastal development strategies
